draperiesHow long a drapery textile will actually last depends on fabric type, finishes, window location, use & abuse, plus frequency or lack of care (cleaning).  A soiled textile will last far less time than a clean one.  Environmental conditions such as dust, condensation, soot/smoke from heat sources (esp. fireplace), and pets all contribute to the degradation of fabrics.  Yearly cleaning is recommended and will prolong the life of the fabric.  We offer different levels of service to meet your needs.

Tips on keeping window treatments looking great:
  • To protect window treatments against yellowing due to excess staining and soiling, clean at least once a year and vacuum weekly.

  • Protect window treatments from prolonged dampness.  Moisture from rain, leaky pipes, or condensation from window panes can result in water marks and mildew.

  • If possible, rotate draperies periodically to vary the amount of light exposure.

  • Protect window treatments from abrasion damage by avoiding constant rubbing on window sills or furnishings while in use.  Abrasion damage can also be caused by a family pet snagging the fabric with sharp claws.

  •  Keep window treatments away from the kitchen, wood stoves, or fire places.  Smoke form these areas plus cigarettes, cooking fumes, and other atmospheric contaminants can contribute greatly to drapery soiling.

  • Most fabrics will shrink to some degree.  Professional blocking or stretching will return them to proper form.

"You arranged Scott to do the job. That had to be my lucky day. First, he arrived at my home exactly on time. After he introduced himself, he immediately set out to do the best job possible for customer satisfaction. He moved things around, took great care to protect the door jams, placed cups under the furniture and ultimately worked very hard to clean the rugs to perfection. This he achieved, as the rugs look great! Scott is a professional motivated to customer service. He is a loyal employee and speaks very highly of the quality service Horrigans provides. Your company is very fortunate to employ such a great guy."
